Yanyou Yuan Di worked as an editor for two magazines before founding the publishing house Jiazazhi in 2009. His interest in photography and writing naturally led him to start a publishing project in 2011 in Beijing. He moved from Beijing to his hometown Ningbo in 2014. Jiazazhi’s practices include webzine, publishing projects, a magazine, a bookshop, a library and participations at book fairs and exhibitions. More than 20 photobooks have been published since then, among them:Bees and Bearable winner of the visitors’ prize at Kassel’s Fotobookfestival Beijing (2016), The Naming of a River and White Night were nominated as among the best first photobooks by Aperture-Paris Photo Award (2016 and 2017), 10 Days in Krakow and Time from Different Source were nominated for the Rencontres d’Arles Author Book Awards. Yanyou Yuan Di also curated some photobook exhibitions and fairs in China, such as Caocangdi Photobook Exhibition in 2012, Handmade Photobook Exhibition in 2013, Ningbo Spring Photobook Party in 2016, JimeixArles Photobook Fair in 2016, Lianzhou Photobook Fair in 2017. Most recently, Jiazazhi has created a photobook library in Ningbo, China, and the photo magazine JIAZAZHI, featuring works of emerging photographers in China and Eastern Asian.
